Why does my line chart not show data in rows or columns, and how can I view it that way?

how do i fix my line chart so that it contains rows or columns

A line chart is a visualization designed to represent trends or patterns over time. It does not display data in a tabular format with rows and columns. If you want to view your data in a format that shows rows and columns, such as by account, time, or entity, you can use either of the two options:

  • Table Chart (in Dashboard) - If you are working in Dashboards, use the Table chart type instead of a Line chart. This allows you to view your data in a structured format where dimensions are placed along rows and columns.

  • Dynamic Report (in Reports) - If you're building or reviewing reports in the Reports module, create a Dynamic Report. These reports offer full control over row and column placements using dimensions like Time, Scenario, Account, Department, etc.

How do I create a table in Planful?

You can create a table visualization using Dashboards. Navigate to Dashboards and click Add. Then, drag and drop the Table object from the Objects tab onto the canvas.

I selected the East Division. How can I view all the names under this division?

To display all the names (i.e., child members) below a selected division like East Division in Planful, you need to adjust the member selection option. Follow the steps below:

In Templates or Dashboards:

  1. Open the desired template or dashboard in edit mode.

  2. Click on the dimension (e.g., Division) where you selected East Division.

  3. From the member selection options, choose one of the following:

    1. Children – shows only the first-level child members under East Division.

    2. All Children – shows all descendant members, regardless of level.

    3. Sel + Children – shows East Division and its first-level children.

    4. Sel + All Children – shows East Division and all levels of children.

    5. Leaves – shows only the lowest-level posting members under East Division.

    6. Sel + Leaves – shows East Division and its leaf members.

  4. Save your selection to update the view.

This setting works similarly across Dashboards, Dynamic Reports, and Templates, and ensures that the entire hierarchy under the selected parent (East Division) is displayed as needed.

Why won't Planful Dashboard on the web allow me to add a filter dimension?

If you're unable to add a filter dimension to a dashboard in Planful on the web, here are some common reasons and considerations based on the documented behavior:

  1. Security Permissions:
Your user role may not have sufficient permissions to modify dashboards. You need at least Edit or Full Control access to the dashboard to add or change filter dimensions.

  2. Chart Type Limitations:
Some charts may have restrictions on how many dimensions or what type of dimensions can be used. Make sure you're using a compatible chart type that supports filtering.

  3. Filter Placement Rules:
You can only place a maximum of 2 dimensions per row or column axis in a chart. However, there is no limit to the number of dimensions used for filters, but this assumes the dimensions are valid and supported.

  4. Unsupported Dimensions:
Certain dimensions, like Scenario, Measure, or Dynamic Planning Models, allow only a single member selection and may not support typical multi-select filters like other dimensions.

  5. Dashboard Not in Edit Mode:
Filters can only be added while the dashboard is in Edit mode. If you're viewing the dashboard in read-only mode, filter controls will be disabled.

  6. Dashboard Designer Restrictions:
If the dashboard was designed using a restricted layout or doesn't have space for new elements, it might not allow additional filters until existing elements are resized or rearranged.

If all the above are ruled out and the issue persists, consider reaching out to your Planful administrator to ensure your role is properly configured for dashboard design.
