Article Summary
This article provides a complete, step-by-step guide to adding a member to the hierarchy in Planful. It explains how to define the node type and sub-type, configure default, segment properties, Source Properties and User Defined Attributes for the new member, and manage hierarchical relationships such as Rollup Nodes and Leaf Nodes. This helps administrators efficiently maintain entity structures and ensure accurate reporting alignment across Planful hierarchies.

eddy_questions:
- How do I add a new member to the hierarchy in Planful?
- Where do I add a rollup or leaf node in the hierarchy?
- How do I set default and segment properties for a hierarchy member?
- How do I configure hierarchy nodes for reporting alignment?
- What is the difference between Rollup Node and Leaf Node?
- Why can’t I create a new hierarchy member?
eddy_synonyms:
member = node, element, item
rollup node = parent, aggregate, summary node
leaf node = child, detail node
hierarchy = structure, dimension tree, organizational structure
To add a new member (i.e. Rollup Node or Leaf Node) to the hierarchy, follow the steps below:
Navigate to Maintenance > Hierarchy > Hierarchy Management.
Open Hierarchy Management in Edit mode. If your default view is set to Edit Mode, the application will automatically open in Edit Mode.
Under Hierarchy Selection, select Type, Dimension, and Hierarchy and click Apply Selection.

Select the desired member location in the hierarchy tree.
Click the Add icon.

Select Rollup Node or Leaf Node from the Node Type drop-down list.
For Rollup Node, you can only create Rollup Member as Node Sub Type.
For Leaf Node, if you are adding a leaf-level member in Financial Hierarchies, select Leaf Member or Calculated Member from the Node Sub Type drop-down list. If you are adding a leaf-level member in Entity Hierarchies, the Default Budget Entity hierarchy is selected in the Node Sub Type drop-down list.
Click Add.

Complete the required fields (for example, Default Properties and Segment Properties)

Default Properties
Segment Properties
Source Properties
User Defined Attributes
To know more about each properties, refer to Exploring the Right Pane in the Hierarchy Management Interface.
Note:
Default Properties apply to all dimension members. Segment Properties, Source Properties, and User-Defined Attributes are displayed based on the selected dimension and whether the member is a roll-up or leaf-level.
Click OK.

Click Save.
How many leaf level members can be created?
There is no limit to the number of leaf-level members you can create. However, organizing them under appropriate roll-up levels is recommended for better structure and manageability.
