Article summary

If users use attributes, attribute hierarchies, or alternate hierarchies in Structured Planning, they can see them in workforce models.

Adding Attributes, Attribute Hierarchies, or Alternate Hierarchies to Workforce Models

To add Structured Planning attributes and alternate hierarchies to an existing workforce model, follow these steps:

Locate and clear the existing workforce model, then regenerate it. Users can do this manually or by running the default setup calculation.

In Practice: SpotlightXL

  1. Go to Model > Setup.

  2. Select the model name from the Model drop-down menu. Initially, users will see the list of dimensions but no attributes or alternate hierarchies.

  3. Click Generate Model. The list of dimensions, attributes, and alternate hierarchies will appear on the Model > Setup screen and will be available for use.

  4. Users can see Attributes and Attribute Hierarchies by navigating to Model > Attribute.

In Practice: Spotlight Web

  1. In the Model Manager, find the model in the grid or list view. Users will see Dimension artifacts, but there will be no Attribute artifacts.

  2. From the More menu, select Generate Model. The screen refreshes and shows the model locked again. Now, users have both Dimension and Attribute artifacts.

  • Users can also run the default Refresh calculation created with the workforce model. This refreshes the model and automatically adds attributes, attribute hierarchies, and alternate hierarchies  .

  • To run the calculation, go to Model > Calculation, locate it, and click Run.

Viewing Attributes, Attribute Hierarchies, or Alternate Hierarchies in Spotlight Model Manager

In Spotlight Model Manager, users can view the workforce dimensions, attributes, attribute hierarchies, and alternate hierarchies using the grid or list view.

In Practice: Spotlight Web

  1. Click on the Grid View icon and select a model.

  2. From the More menu, select Model Artifacts.

  3. Click Attributes to view the list of attributes and their associated dimensions.

  4. Close the Artifact Browser and navigate back by clicking the Back Arrow.

  5. Click Dimensions to view the list of dimensions, alternate hierarchies, and attributes.

Support for Attribute Default in Workforce Models

Workforce models support views and reports that include the Attribute Default member of an Attribute dimension. This special member denotes base dimension members not mapped to any attribute in the Attribute dimension.

For example, if a dimension has 100 members and 80 are mapped to attributes, the remaining 20 members will be automatically associated with Attribute Default. The user will see Attribute Default whenever they expand an attribute dimension or look up an attribute in a member selection box.
