Article summary

You can use the Manage page to understand performance and spending by segment, goal, campaign, and expense group

The Mange page provides a flexible way to manage spending for campaigns and expense groups.  You may have seen the introduction here, but now want to dive a little deeper.  When you select Manage > Goals, Campaigns, or Expense Groups the platform will open to the Manage page view.

Manage page modes - Allocation and Spending

The Manage page has two modes, Allocation and Spending mode so that you can view your budget with the appropriate lens . The budget hierarchy column of the Manage page is static, so you always have context about what you’re seeing, even while you drill into different data based on the selected mode.

Allocation Mode

The “Allocation” mode enables marketers to determine how much of the budget is being spent on campaigns and expense groups over time ,and then easily make adjustments to your plan with agility and efficiency.

Spending Mode

See the Spending tab in action

“Spending” mode gives you flexible, detailed visibility into how much you have left to spend. When viewing the Manage page in Spending mode, you’ll notice the same budget hierarchy and the same views (by Segment, Goal or Campaign) on the left with a new set of detailed columns in the table.

Spending

The purpose of the Spending mode is to show an overview of your spend and how much money you still have available. We break this data down into helpful columns including:

  • The allocation for each campaign & expense group, and the sum of these allocations
  • The sum of Planned, Committed, and Closed Expenses by object
  • The total allocated budget remaining for each object, as well as the remaining amount allocated to an object’s children (where applicable)
  • And of course, the truly available budget for each object

Spending mode: Calculation & Formula Toggles

We’ve added a few toggles to give you control over how to view your spending and whether to explain the math behind the calculations.

The new toggles lets you choose if you would like to include planned expenses in the total expense calculation, depending on the level of commitment you ascribe to planned expenses. You can also collapse expenses into a single Total Expenses figure.  Then you can use the formula toggle to see how Total Remaining and Total Available are calculated.

  • The performance column utilizes colored arrows to quickly indicate how a campaign is performing versus expectations. You can see whether the actual performance of the campaign’s key metric is above, below, or tracking to its target value. If you point at the arrow then you’ll see the target and actual values, and if you click on it, then you’ll jump to the detailed metric page for the campaign’s key metric.

  • The Mini Dash is a compass that always gives you context of how much of your budget hierarchy you are viewing at a given time. When you filter your view of the Manage page, the Mini Dash will adjust to show you the allocated and available amount you’re currently viewing.

Hierarchical Organization

The budget hierarchy on the left of the table is a nested view of your budget that shows how all your segments, goals, campaigns and expense groups are related to one another. Everything can be expanded and collapsed to see as much or as little of your budget as you wish.

Managing Campaign Allocations

The right of the table uses what we affectionately call “smart cells” and the optional expense column to show how much you have left to spend (or not) for each campaign and expense group.  You can see the allocated amount and sum of expenses, as well as the difference between the two (the amount of money available or overspent) - over time.

Manage Page: Smart Cells

We’ve increased the ability for better decision making with agility and efficiency in managing your campaigns and allocated budget.

Manage Page- smart cells(1)

Smart cells allow you to edit allocation amounts in-line or drag and drop available amounts between objects on the fly (shown in green text above the cell). Using our smart cells, you can now see the difference between allocated amounts and expense amounts from this table view for actionable insights.

  • If the difference is positive (indicating you still have an available budget in that timeframe) you can move that money around by dragging and dropping it somewhere else in your budget or simply double click to true up the amount and return it to the total available budget.
  • If the difference is negative (indicating you have overspent on your budget in that timeframe) you can easily move money between objects, or from the available balance of your budget to cover the costs and true up the amount.

Navigating within the Manage Page

Objects and actionable tabs can be found in the sub navigation. Easily change how you view the table by setting the segments, goals, or campaigns as the top level of the hierarchy using the icons indicated.

action items(1)

  • Expenses can be toggled on and off depending on the level of detail you are looking for.

Organize your view on the Manage page by collapsing or expanding objects in the leftmost hierarchy column. You can also filter down to or search for an individual object, using the filters and search features in the main navigation of the platform.

*It is best practice to allocate at least 50% of your budget

to campaigns and activities that drive your goals.

Actionable Campaign Management

The Create button allows you to create an object -  Campaign, Goal, or Expense Group on the fly within the same view of your overall hierarchy for greater visibility of objects and their association.

The Actions dropdown allows you to select single or multiple objects from your hierarchy to perform specific actions, such as; duplicate, delete, or end. (Campaigns and expense groups can be “ended”.)

  • You can access actions by hovering over the right side of the hierarchy cells.
