New Expense page

We have completely overhauled our Expenses page to make it easier to find, view and edit the expenses you are looking for.

The Sidebar

The first thing you will notice when you go to the new expense page is there are no expenses visible by default. This is because our customers have hundreds, even thousands of expenses in their budget and showing all expenses in a list is generally unhelpful. When you go to Google, Google doesn’t show you a list of every single website, it prompts you to enter some search criteria before it starts fielding results.

We wanted to take the same approach so the very first thing you can do to make sure you find the expenses you are looking for is set how you want to view your expenses:

In the top right, there is a dropdown for all the ways you can view your expenses. It defaults to view by segment, but you have lots of choices. Once you select one, the left sidebar becomes a full list of options in your selected view. For example, if I select ‘view by timeframe’, I get a list of every month of the year and the count of the expenses in those months. I can click on a month to view the full list of expenses:

Note that if I select view by segment or by campaign, the sidebar becomes a full view of my budget hierarchy with either segments or campaigns (respectively) at the top:

The sidebar is also a drag and drop target. Meaning I can drag and drop expenses from the table into the sidebar to edit their data. For example, if I am viewing my expenses by GL, I can click the list of expenses that have no GL code and drag and drop them into GLs on my sidebar to set their GL codes.

The search bar at the top of the sidebar accepts search criteria based on your view. So, if you are viewing by campaign, you can quickly search for a specific campaign to find those expenses.

If you really do just want to see all your expenses, in any view you can select the All box in the sidebar and it will bring up all your expenses in the table (paginated).

Finally, the sidebar can be collapsed to expand your view of the table:

The Expense Table

The new and improved expense table is designed to be clearer, more actionable and, most importantly, configurable.

From the tools icon in the top right of the table, you can choose how you want to sort your expenses, export the expenses in your view and configure the columns in the table. Every column in the table can be turned on or off except the Expense Name.

Additionally, you can select multiple expenses from the table and perform actions in order to edit multiple expenses at once by selecting Actions from the tool icon menu:

In the table, expense status and timeframe can be changed inline:
