Adding Hierarchy Members

Article summary

This option is used to modify and edit the recently created Hierarchy. 

Note:
  • Rollup Node functions are different from Leaf Node functions. Leaf Node is the last level in a hierarchy and data can be loaded to leaf nodes. The data loaded to the leaf is rolled up to the leaf node's rollup member.
  • The following special characters are restricted from use in the Leaf Code of a segment leaf member when creating segment hierarchy data or loading it to Planful: ‘ " ` ! @ # $ ^ * ( ) + = [ ] { } \ | ; : < > , ? All other special characters documented in the Getting Started guide are supported.

Add

You can add a rollup member and a leaf member using this option.

Adding a Rollup Member

To add a rollup member, do the following:

  1. Open Hierarchy Management is opened in Edit mode.
  2. Select Type, Dimension, and Hierarchy under Hierarchy Selection and click Show.
  3. Select the desired member location in the hierarchy tree.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Select Rollup Node from the Node Type drop-down list. For Rollup Node, you can only create a Rollup Member Node Sub Type.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Complete required fields (i.e. Default Properties).
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Save.


Adding Leaf Level Member
  1. Ensure Hierarchy Management is opened in Edit mode.
  2. Under Hierarchy Selection, select Type, Dimension, and Hierarchy and click Show.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Select Leaf Node from the Node Type drop-down list. If you are adding a leaf level member in Financial Hierarchies, select Leaf Member or Calculated Member from the Node Sub Type drop-down list. If you are adding a level member in Entity Hierarchies, the default budget entity hierarchy selected in the Node Sub Type drop-down list.
  5. Complete all the required fields (for example; Default Properties and Segment Properties).
  6. Click Save.


In addition to adding a rollup member and/or leaf member, you can edit and delete these members. 

Edit

You can also edit a rollup member and the leaf level member.

Editing a Rollup Member
  1. Open Hierarchy Management in Edit mode.
  2. Under Hierarchy Selection, select Type, Dimension, and Hierarchy and click Show.
  3. In the hierarchy tree, select the immediate parent member of the desired rollup member.
  4. In the middle pane, select the rollup member. If the properties panel is not visible, click More, and then click Show/Hide Properties.
  5. Edit the properties as needed.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Save.
Note:
Hierarchy updates to member names or codes are automatically displayed in the member selections of a Dynamic Report. However, this does not apply to attributes, attribute hierarchies, alternate hierarchies, substitution variables user prompts, and Financial Package Publisher. Members that are used in a Dynamic Report and deleted from the Segment Hierarchies are still shown in the report selections, however, they are ignored when the report is run.


Editing a Leaf Level Member
  1. Open Hierarchy Management in Edit mode.
  2. Under Hierarchy Selection, select Type, Dimension, and Hierarchy and click Show.
  3. In the hierarchy tree, select the immediate parent member of the desired leaf level member.
  4. In the middle pane, select the leaf level member. If the properties panel is not visible, click More, and then click Show/Hide Properties.
  5. Edit the properties as needed.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Save.
Note:

Delete

You can delete a rollup member and the leaf level member.


Delete a Rollup Member
  1. Open Hierarchy Management in Edit mode.
  2. Under Hierarchy Selection, select Type, Dimension, and Hierarchy and click Show.
  3. In the hierarchy tree, select the immediate parent member of the desired rollup member.
  4. In the middle panel, select the rollup member.
  5. Click Delete.
  6. In the message that appears for confirmation, click OK.


Deleting a Leaf Level Member
  1. Open Hierarchy Management in Edit mode.
  2. Under Hierarchy Selection, select Type, Dimension, and Hierarchy and click Show.
  3. In the hierarchy tree, select the immediate parent rollup member of the desired leaf level member.
  4. In the middle pane, select the leaf level member.
  5. Click Delete.
  6. In the message that appears for confirmation, click OK.
