Article summary

The Multi-Block Cascade Enhancement in SpotlightXL allows users to define and render multiple independent Cascade Blocks within a single report. This provides enhanced flexibility in layout and model integration without compromising Excel formula integrity.

Prerequisites

  • The feature flag Enable Multi-Block Cascade must be enabled.

  • Users must be in Design Mode to configure Cascade Blocks.

Steps to Use Multi-Block Cascade

  1. Open the SpotlightXL report in Design Mode.

  1. Configure Cascade Blocks using the Design Manager:

    • Each block must include page dimension, row dimension, and column dimension.

Notes:

  • Named Ranges are not supported in SpotlightXL when publishing Multi Cascade templates.

  • Cascade Block names are system-defined and cannot be renamed.

  • Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V are not supported on the cascade blocks to cut and paste it in the other sheet.

  1. Position Cascade Blocks based on your reporting layout needs. Supported arrangements include:

    • Stacked (Vertical)

    • Side-by-side (Horizontal)

    • Offset (Custom positioning)

  2. Click Run to generate and view the report with all configured Cascade Blocks.

Additional Notes:

  • When a user creates a formula cell outside the cascade block, the formula cell becomes misaligned.

  • If the upper block range is smaller than the lower block range, the intersections of the lower block (with the larger range) do not align properly.

  • If a report contains multiple cascade blocks from the same model, changes made in the cascade member list (adding or deleting members) affect all blocks.

  • The POV member of the first cascade block may incorrectly refer to the row dimension of another block in the same report (when both blocks are created from the same model).

  • When creating cascade blocks of the same model, duplicate cascade members sometimes appear in the member list after adding new members.
