Getting to Know the Import / Export

Overview

Users with either read-write or admin permission will have a menu option for any active budget (not Read-Only) under Create > Import/Export Data.

The export functionality (XLSX, JSON) always reflects the admin-defined global budget formula from the Budget Page. Temporary customizations made via the Manage Page do not persist in exports. Similarly, when importing budget data, Planful reverts to the default budget formula. Custom formulas must be manually redefined post-import if required.

  • If the Forecast feature is enabled, a Forecast column is included in your budget export, allowing you to review or prepare Forecast values alongside Budget data. When importing data, Forecast values can be created or updated for Campaigns and Expense Groups. Ensure that your import file includes the Forecast column if you want Forecast updates to be applied. The Import/Export Data page has two sections, Export and Import. You can export reports or your entire budget in XLSX format from here. You can use the budget export as a template for bulk importing elements of your budget, which is useful when adding more than a few items at a time.
