Article summary

None of the following maintenance options are mandatory. They are provided solely for information and convenience.

Backup and Restore

Power users can utilize the Backup and Restore feature for models with Direct Access to Structured Planning. While the model itself does not store data, any views or reports users create are saved with it and included in the backup.

See How to Backup a Model and How to Restore a Model for more information.

Hierarchy Updates

The hierarchy in the Workforce Reporting Area likely changes regularly.

Automatic Updates

Whenever the hierarchy in Structured Planning changes, these updates are automatically pushed to Dynamic Planning. When a Power user modifies the hierarchy in Structured Planning and clicks Save, a refresh calculation is automatically run in Dynamic Planning. The next time a view or report is accessed, the user can click Refresh or Get Data to see the changes.

Manual Updates

Power users and Contributors can manually refresh the model in Dynamic Planning to incorporate metadata updates from Structured Planning. This process usually happens automatically in the background. However, if users prefer to perform a manual refresh, they can run the refresh calculation. This calculation is created automatically when the model is generated and is named after the model. Users can view or run it to understand or control the refresh process.

  1. Login to SpotlightXL.

  2. Select Model > Calculation.

  3. Select the model name from the Model drop-down.

  4. Select the calculation from the Calculation drop-down. There should be a single calculation named with the model name followed by Refresh.

  5. This calculation contains all the necessary commands to refresh the model.

  6. Click Run to start the calculation.

  7. Click Refresh repeatedly until the Current Status field shows Calculation completed.

Note:

Both Power users and Contributors can also run this calculation from the Model Manager in Spotlight Web.
